The quick instincts of legendary sports broadcaster Bob Costas saved a restaurant patron’s life recently. According to a report from TMZ Sports, the longtime on-air personality saved an individual who was choking by performing the Heimlich maneuver.

Per one of Costas’ representatives, the broadcaster was out to eat when he noticed a fellow restaurant-goer gasping for air. That’s when Costas jumped into action, rushing over to the individual to perform the Heimlich maneuver.

Costas’ quick action saved that patron’s life. But according to his representative, he did not want any attention or accolades for his life-saving efforts.

“Bob doesn’t think this was that big of a deal,” the representative told Page Six. “He really feels he did what just about anyone else would do in a similar situation.”

Costas had not commented on the incident personally at the time of the initial report.

The legendary sportscaster has been calling games during the MLB postseason the past week. He was the play-by-play man for Tuesday night’s Dodgers-Diamondbacks NLDS game.

Costas remains one of the most iconic figures in sports broadcasting. He’s covered the Olympics, NBA, NFL, MLB and several other sports and events over the course of his career. In 2018, Costas was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
