In a collaborative first, Burton Snowboards worked with the US Mint in the creation of a new dollar coin that features a snowboarder on one side.

The one-dollar coin is part of the US Mint's American Innovation Series. Each state, the District of Columbia , and the five US territories will be honored through the series and released periodically. This one-dollar piece is Vermont's coin.

The commemorative coin was originally released in 2022, but the news circulated today on snowboarding Instagram. It's worth celebrating!

Burton posted about the news on their @burton Instagram, saying:

"While the concept of riding a board downhill on snow has existed since at least the 1920s, and perhaps for centuries before, snowboarding's technological development and transformation from a novel recreation to a worldwide phenomenon are tied closely to the state of Vermont.

This new dollar coin featuring a snowboarder represents Jake Burton Carpenter, Burton, and Vermont's unique role in pioneering snowboarding's art, community, and culture."

The Burlington-based snowboard brand has been working with the US Mint since 2020 on the coin. While coins are already sold out on the US Mint website, they're already available on ebay for around three dollars each.
