The University of Louisville women’s golf team got their 2024 spring season off to a strong start with a victory over the Indiana Hoosiers. The Cardinals came out on top with a score of 5-3 in an exciting match play event at Shadow Wood Country Club in Naples, Fla. This match served as the team’s final outing of their training trip before returning to Louisville.

All eight members of the Cardinals’ team took to the course for the first time since The Ally tournament in October. Carmen Griffiths led the way with a dominant performance, winning her match 3 & 1. Rylee Suttor also played impressively, coming out on top with a score of 4 & 3. Beatriz Barrios secured a victory with a score of 3 & 2, while Gabbi Bentancourt prevailed 2 & 1. Hana Ryskova sealed the win for the Cardinals with a score of 2 up. On the flip side, Millie Cottrell suffered a narrow defeat of 1 down, Carly Haines lost 5 & 3, and Molly Lyne fell 2 & 1 in their matches.

Following their successful match against the Hoosiers, the Cardinals will return to Louisville and prepare for their first tournament of the spring season. The team will be traveling to Guadalajara, Mexico, where they will compete in the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club. The event, which is being hosted by Virginia, will take place over two days.

The tournament schedule will see the first round and the first nine holes of the second round played on Friday, Feb. 2. The final nine holes and the third round will be completed on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Cardinals will undoubtedly be looking to build on their momentum from the win against the Hoosiers and continue their success in the upcoming competition.
