Celtic received £2.5m and could still receive another £1.5m for Ryan Christie, according to a report. The Daily Record revealed today that the attacking midfielder, who had months remaining on his deal, completed a move on deadline day worth up to £4m. The club were, however, paid £2.5m by Bournemouth to sign the Scotland Internationalist.
Celtic had held discussions with the playmaker’s representatives but a decision to sell was made as Christie was free to leave for nothing as early as January.
The player appears to have decided to go to join Scott Parker’s Cherries in order to seek promotion back to the top flight. Christie will also have likely decided to go to the Championship over Burnley for the attractive lifestyle as well as the brand of football.
Christie was a mainstay in the Celtic sides that won the Treble Treble and Quadruple Treble and leaves to join the Championship club having scored 41 goals and 45 assists in 151 appearances for Celtic. His final appearance came in the defeat to Rangers, a poor end to what will be regarded as an excellent career in the Hoops.
The player provided energy in the centre of the park and an additional option on the wing; however, his time at the club appeared to be up. He had achieved an enormous amount in his time and his departure was the latest in the breakup of the Quadruple Treble winning team.
