With the Week 13 slate yet to kick off, three AAC teams are still undefeated in league play: Tulane, UTSA, and SMU.

#23 Tulane hosts UTSA on Black Friday on ABC. If the Green Wave win, they'll host the AAC championship. Meanwhile, SMU play Navy on Saturday as the Mustangs need a win and a UTSA loss to get to the title game.

On Tuesday, a key member of the committee was asked what value the committee places on winning the American Athletic Conference, regardless of who does it, as it pertains to the New Year's Six.

"Conference championships do matter, as we talk about it," College Football Playoff Selection Committee Chair Boo Corrigan told members of the media on Tuesday. "Head-to-head matters, where games are played matters, and obviously conference championship is a big determining factor."

Given Tulane's position as the highest ranked G5 team in the CFP rankings, winning the AAC would all but certainly send them to a New Year's Six game. However, the edition of Liberty at #25 this made things interesting. If Tulane get to the AAC title game, but lose, does that mean Liberty overtake them for the New Year's Six spot? Or does winning the AAC send UTSA or SMU  through ahead of the Flames due to the strength (or at least perceived strength) of the conference?

This is a question only the CFP Selection Committee can answer with their next two sets of rankings.
