The Indianapolis Colts are set with Carson Wentz as the starting quarterback.

But as we all know he is prone to injuries and is playing this season with two sprained ankles.

That means the Colts need proper options backing him up.

At one point in time it seemed to be a competition between Sam Ehlinger and Jacob Eason.

Ehlinger suffered an injury to start the year, giving the job to Eason.

But the Colts then signed Brett Hundley, effectively bumping Eason out of the rotation.

Tuesday saw the Colts make a series of roster moves and unfortunately for Eason, he is the odd man out.

This is great news for Ehlinger, as Eason now looks for a new opportunity.

One Brief Shot

Eason came on in relief of an injured Wentz in Week 2 in a close game against the Los Angeles Rams.

He finished with two completions, but also tossed an interception.

Instead of launching a game-winning drive, he threw the ball to the Rams and that was it for the Eason experiment in Indianapolis.

The fact the Colts chose Ehlinger over Eason pretty much ensures the former would have entered in that Rams game if he had been healthy.

Focus Remains On Wentz

Ultimately, the Colts will go as far as Wentz takes them this season.

At 2-4, they are already facing an uphill battle and as mentioned, the quarterback is dealing with an injury.

His contract also makes it so the Colts are riding with him during the 2022 season as well.

After that, when his dead cap value drops to nothing, the team can evaluate if someone like Ehlinger is a legitimate option for the job.

But if Wentz succeeds, the conversation about Eason and Ehlinger will end up being unimportant in the long-term.
