If you're a Tennessee Vols fan, you know how it feels to come up short, more often than not, against the Florida Gators -- even when UF doesn't have a very strong team.

It's happened countless times to the Vols when playing the Gators, including earlier this season.

Regardless of the state of either team, it feels like Florida almost always finds a way to get the win against Tennessee. At this point, it feels not being able to consistently beat Florida is in the Vols' minds.

The same seems to be true for Kentucky when it comes to Tennessee.

Some of the Wildcats' best teams have lost to some of Tennessee's worst teams. The Vols, for whatever reason, just seem to always find a way against Kentucky.

(UK has only won three games against the Vols since 1985.)

And that narrative seems to be living rent free in Kentucky's minds -- at least based on a comment from Wildcats offensive coordinator Liam Coen this week.

"At the end of the day, these guys know that we gotta win some of these, too, to make it a true rivalry," said Coen. "It is a rivalry. We believe that in terms of our guys....and Tennessee being so close. But it's on us to take something."

"They've obviously had the upper hand in the last couple of games," added Coen. "And we've gotta come out and prove that we can beat these guys, we can beat Tennessee. That we can play to our standard."

It certainly sounds like the inability to beat Tennessee is a big topic inside of Kentucky's facility. And it definitely sounds like it's in their heads.

That's usually not a recipe for success. That kind of mindset can lead to a complete meltdown when a team hits a little bit of adversity (just like it did for the Vols at Florida and at Alabama).

It's impossible to know if that mindset will cost the Wildcats against Tennessee on Saturday night in Lexington, but it's certainly not an ideal mindset for a team to enter a rivalry game with.
