Lionel Messi and Neymar both had similar seasons so far this year.

For one, Messi (Argentina) and Neymar (Brazil) have shined with their respective national teams in 2022 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying play. But with PSG, they have not yet put out multiple standout performances this season, especially as they have combined for four total goals scored this season.

PSG midfielder Angel Di Maria is still much confident that the two will soon be able to turn around their form with the French powerhouse, which he spoke further about to Telefoot.

“With Leo’s arrival, it’s harder to find that cohesion,” Di Maria said. “Things are not clear yet, but they will become so. Neymar is an immense player—bit by bit he will return to a top level.”

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino has had difficult decisions to make with his starting lineups this season, considering the multiple attackers that he has as options upfront. Di Maria well recognizes the competition that there is to become a regular starter with the team this season.

“Competition [for places] is difficult,” Di Maria said. “When you have those three players in front of you, you have to work, and do as well as possible in order to play. And then it’s the manager who decides.”

For now, PSG will clash with Lille OSC in Ligue 1 play on Friday.
