The agent of Donny van de Beek has taken a swipe at Manchester United after suggesting the club blocked a transfer for the Netherlands international.

Van de Beek struggled to impress during his first season at the club but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said publicly — on a number of occasions — that the midfielder is part of his plans.

Thus far he has failed to establish himself as a regular in the team and the manager knows it’s going to be a long campaign, which will see him make lots of changes to the team if injuries or COVID-19 gets in the way.

However, an exit had been touted and, speaking on deadline day, Van de Beek’s agent expressed disappointment that a move could not be conducted.

Van de Beek was also linked to Everton on deadline day.

Guido Albers told Voetbal International, as cited by the Manchester Evening News: “There was a lot of interest from Italy, Germany, England, so that looked good. But you need co-operation of the club, and it looked like they would, but ultimately they didn’t.

“Disappointed, but also assuring for him, so that he will get his chance, and will get his minutes, but this will become clear in due time.

“He’s been promised that before, but we came to a clear agreement about this with the club, so we have all faith that it will happen now.”

Albers was then asked whether Van de Beek was happy with the situation by the interviewer, to which he replied: “I won’t say. But everybody who knows Donny knows he loves the game and he wants to be on the pitch every week. So from this answer you can probably tell what he wanted most.”

The Dutchman has yet to feature for the Reds this season and missed out on a place in Louis van Gaal’s Dutch squad.

Reports from Italy

This one doesn’t add up.

Italian outlet laroma24.it claim Roma general manager Tiago Pinto was contacted over the possibility of a season-long loan for Van de Beek.

The report states Jose Mourinho turned down the offer.
