Manchester United had a huge €40m bid for Nikola Milenkovic rejected, it has been revealed. Links to the defender have been more prominent since the bid in question was lodged, but according to Fiorentina’s general director at the time, an offer from the club was rebuffed by the Italian side.

Milenkovic is one of many players reportedly on Solskjaer’s wishlist this summer as he continues his search for a partner to Harry Maguire, who is seen as the undisputed first choice at the heart of the backline.

Pantaleo Corvino, who worked as Fiorentina’s general director between 2016 and 2019, has now confirmed that The Reds had a big offer for Milenkovic rejected back in 2019.

“For Milenkovic, in January of my last season at Fiorentina, the Della Valle, and I say it here without fear of being proven wrong, refused 40 million euros plus bonuses from Manchester United,” Corvino told Tuttosport, via Sport Witness.

The claims place the bid at a time where Manchester United were without a permanent manager and it seems unlikely the club would be ready to commit to such a big sum.

Regardless, Milenkovic is now one year away from leaving La Viola on a free transfer, which could mean that there’s a sense of regret at the Italian club if the offer actually came two years ago.
