For the first time since 2018, the Indiana women’s basketball program had back-to-back games where a player scored 30 points.

Sophomore guard Yarden Garzon scored 30 points in the team’s win against Evansville earlier this week.

Then on Friday night against Bowling Green, senior guard Sara Scalia scored 32 points in the win.

After the game, Scalia emphasized the importance of playing her game when she’s hitting shots.

“I saw my first couple go down and obviously my teammates were looking for me when I was open,” Scalia said after her 32-pt performance. “It’s a good feeling when you’re hot like that so I was trying to have fun with it and keep playing my game.”

Scalia made eight threes in the win, but her performance is indicative of the balanced attack that the Indiana women’s basketball team boasts. On any given night multiple players could go for 20 points and Garzons’s 30-point performance the game before emphasized that.

“Even last year, I knew the people I’m on the court with, any of them can get 20 any given night,” Chloe Moore-McNeil said about the team’s scorers. “So whether it’s Yarden [Garzon], whether it’s Mack [Mackenzie Holmes], whether it’s Sara [Scalia], I think I can speak for everybody else, it’s no shock to me.”

The balanced scoring attack has allowed the Indiana women’s basketball team to rely on different players from night to night making them even more dangerous on the offensive end.

Scalia’s 30-point performance made history for the 10-1 Hoosiers who head into a break before jumping into Big Ten play against Illinois on New Year’s Eve.
