Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps. And neither does criticism of the city’s quarterback apparently. Recently, Good Morning Football laid into the beset Raiders signal-caller.
After endless rumors and speculation, the Raiders continue to roll with quarterback Derek Carr, whether fans like it or not. Since Jon Gruden’s return to the Silver and Black, Carr has improved in almost every category as a passer. Nevertheless, the team has yet to return to the playoffs under the current regime.
Former NFL wide receiver, Nate Burleson, pointed to Carr’s shortcomings last year on Good Morning Football. In particular, Burleson stated that while Carr played well, he simply didn’t show up when it mattered most. This is certainly debatable as Carr himself has led the Raiders to double-digit comeback victories over his career.
Would the Raiders actually move on?
Recently, Carr made it clear he doesn’t want to play anywhere and truly wants to be a Raider for life. Loyalty aside, the NFL is a business first and foremost. The Raiders simply haven’t won much with Carr as their leader and 2021 could be another long season.
The panel of Peter Schrager and Kyle Brandt did point out that Carr as a person, is very likable and his recent words do appear to be sincere. However, the team shouldn’t be opposed to moving on from ‘4’ after this season. They point to another current quarterback saying he wanted to be a Lion for life in Matthew Stafford. Change can come to even the most loyal subjects. Funny enough, the GMF crew did allude to the legions of Carr fans and apologists who continuously defend him with the same excuses each offseason. This was apparently the same scenario for Stafford during his time in Detroit. Despite the parallels between Carr and Stafford, the Raiders appear to be all in on Carr at the moment. Raider Nation anxiously waits to see what ‘4’ can do with an improved defense, at least one on paper.
