The New York Giants are ranked eighth in passing yards allowed through four games of the 2022 NFL season.

But despite that favorable result, they are bringing back one of their former top players on defense.

ESPN NFL Nation reporter Jordan Raanan tweeted, “The Giants are signing Landon Collins as @JosinaAnderson noted. He’s back. Practice squad to start. Linebacker, safety, all over the field. The kind of versatile player that Wink Martindale can deploy in a variety of ways.”

He will join the squad in time for their Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.

While the Giants are stacked in the secondary, they could use some help at linebacker because Elerson Smith and Darrian Beavers are on injured reserve.

That’s where Collins’ versatility comes in because he can play multiple positions and line up at various spots on the field.

Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale will have that gadget type of defensive player that can get the job done wherever he is needed.

A Glimpse Of Collins’ Football Career

Collins was selected by the Giants in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He became a three-time Pro Bowler and one-time Second-Team All-Pro member in his first stint with the Giants.

He had 100 solo tackles, four sacks, five interceptions, and 13 pass deflections in his only All-Pro season.

After four years in New York, he signed a six-year, $84 million deal to join the then-Washington Redskins.

However, he lasted only three seasons and was designated this offseason as a post-June 1 release.

Collins has 482 solo tackles, ten sacks, seven forced fumbles, 11 interceptions, and 39 pass deflections in his career.

The New Orleans native played three seasons at Alabama before declaring for the NFL Draft.

The Crimson Tide recruited him out of Dutchtown High School.
