Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson claims it is ‘too soon’ for his former club to sign one particular striker this month, because he’s not ready.

Ironically, said striker is actually a former Chelsea player who came up through their academy, and he is certainly not young anymore.

EXCLUSIVE! Diomande more attainable than Todibo, Guehi still an option, Newcastle enquire for Chelsea man, Pochettino has no autonomy in January, Osimhen pre-deal possible, Toney, Gallagher, and more…

We are of course talking about Dominic Solanke, who is currently hitting some good form and finding the net with Bournemouth.

The former Blue has netted 13 goals in 20 appearances so far in all competitions for his club, which is a good return in the Premier League.

I don’t think Chelsea have even been linked with wanting to sign him right now, but Johnson has been speaking about a potential move anyway.

In words cited on X, Johnson said: “I think a move like that [to Chelsea] would be too soon for Dominic [Solanke]. He’s beginning to show a better end product and he’s beginning to realise the potential that Liverpool saw in him when they signed him. It’s great to see him scoring regularly in the Premier League, but for me he hasn’t done it for long enough for a club like Chelsea to sign him.”

I personally think Solanke is showing that he is a great all round number 9, something that Chelsea certainly miss. But I would also have some similar reservations to Johnson and I’m not sure I’d be completely for this move, if it ever did happen. Remember, Chelsea aren’t even linked yet.
