According to a report from NBC Sports Chicago, Chicago Bears tight end Jimmy Graham signed with the Bears in 2020 with thoughts of winning the Super Bowl.
Graham mentioned the excitement the Bears still had entering the 2020 campaign. A really good defense, coupled by strong special teams and a promising backfield on offense, were reasons Graham notes for signing. However, as is always the case, things don’t always work out as we saw with the 2020 Bears. Unfortunately for the Hall of Fame caliber tight end, he is still chasing a championship.
This season, Graham has been used sparingly on offense. In fact, the position as a whole is underutilized. Entering the Bears’ Week 13 game against the Arizona Cardinals, the four tight ends on the roster have been targeted 78 times. Of those 78 targets, Cole Kmet has 57 of those. One possible reason, among many, for the Bears’ offensive struggles is the lack of tight end usage this season.
Over the course of his Bears career, Graham has posted 56 catches for 554 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2021, the All-Pro tight end has only amassed 98 receiving yards in nine games.
What the future holds for Jimmy Graham remains to be seen. The 12th-year pro has had a long and successful career, but there is no guarantee his services will be wanted after the 2021 season. That said, his intentions were pure when signing with the Bears ahead of the 2020 season.
