Kentucky has mostly filled the roster for this upcoming season but that didn’t stop him from making another splash this week. Adding a Kentucky boy always gets BBN going but Trent Noah is more than just a token addition. Lets dive into how he fits and if you missed our other previews you can find them here:
Offensively
Noah has a great build for a wing as he stands at 6’6” 200 lbs. At the HS level he’s shown to be an elite shooter. He’s lethal as a spot-up shooter and I think that can translate very early in his college career. Noah has also flashed the ability to score off the bounce that will likely require some development in terms of footwork and handle, but the foundation is there.
Trent also has a great feel for the game and is a willing and capable passer. In the right system Noah will be able to flourish with a super high ceiling in college basketball.
Defensively
Not known for his defensive chops but combining his frame with basketball IQ and there is enough there to believe Noah can be an above average defender at the college level. Extra versatility if his frame allows him to eventually defend against bigger players. Trent has also proven to be a good rebounder as a wing which would also help in defending the 2-4 spots on that end of the floor.
There will probably be a lot of growing pains as Noah develops but effort will not be an issue on the defensive end of the floor.
2024 Outlook
Noah isn’t the type of highly rated Freshmen that a lot of BBN are used to and other programs are rolling their eyes at the excitement over a 3 star kid from Harlan County. This is new Kentucky, but Trent Noah is also not a scrub nor is he a charity case. The kid was committed to play for a very good coach down in South Carolina and was going to play in the SEC. This is a P5 level player with the potential to be a CBB star.
I doubt we’ll see that in Year 1 and Kentucky won’t need him to be. I’d say his role this year will be as a spot-up shooter in spot minutes that create space while he develops. He’ll provide a great foundation for the next several years presuming he develops like we all think he will.
