Daniil Medvedev has offered his backing to Novak Djokovic following the Serbian’s comments on vaccinations.

Djokovic was asked his vaccination status by the press and he stood firm in his desire not to reveal it.

The world number one went even further than that, though, criticising the media for persistently asking personal medical questions and potentially shaming those who choose not to take the COVID vaccine.

The Australian government have said no players will be allowed into the country for the Australian Open unless they are double-vaccinated, meaning players will be forced into a public decision.

However, despite that, Medvedev says what Djokovic said is ultimately still accurate.

“I liked what Novak said about this,” Medvedev said.

“He said the vaccination was a personal matter and he would not be making it public. And I also decided not to disclose medical things,” he said.

“As for Australia: everyone will see who is vaccinated and who is not. Of course, the players can say that they are injured, but this will be a play on words.

“I want to play in Australia, that’s all I can say.”

Medvedev won his maiden Grand Slam title last month, beating Djokovic in the US Open final.
