Tottenham Hotspur was looking for a striker that could compliment Harry Kane this summer. The north London-based club eyes various players such as Lautaro Martínez and Dušan Vlahović. However, the high prices resulted in the Premier League side pulling the plug on their pursuit.

In an appearance on talkSPORT, Darren Ambrose stated that he would’ve like to see Tottenham acquire forward Troy Deeney as a Plan B following the decision to not spend big on a striker this summer.

Deeney spent last season with Watford, helping them in their promotion to the Premier League. However, the 33-year-old would leave the club and sign with Birmingham City FC. Nonetheless, as a short-term solution, Ambrose wanted Deeney in north London.

“I am going to say. I would have had him at Tottenham, for sure. I say this because Harry Kane has stayed now, and he is always going to play,” Ambrose said.

“To get center-forward a center-forward, they need to know that they need to be a back-up striker. I think he would have happily done that. I think he gives you something extra. If you look at when Spurs played Watford, he could have caused problems like he always does.”

Deeney has plenty of experience in the Premier League, having made 165 appearances, all with Watford, scoring 47 goals and registering 21 assists. Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated that Tottenham will be eyeing a striker next summer.
