Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer has named two of his idols he was looking up to while growing up. The 34-year-old joined Nerazzurri in the summer as a short-term replacement for Andre Onana, who left the club to join Manchester United.

While Onana has had an abysmal start to life at Old Trafford, Sommer has excelled at Inter. He has conceded a league-low five goals in Serie A this season.

The Swiss keeper will be between the sticks when Inter and Torino lock horns on Saturday evening. Sommer will be out to make amends after being beaten twice in a 2-2 draw against Bologna before the international break.

Speaking to the press in the build-up, the new Inter No 1 admitted he always wanted to become a goalkeeper.

I started playing football when I was four years old. I never played any other sport,” the Inter veteran said, as quoted by FCInterNews. “I’ve always wanted to be a footballer. I’ve always played in goal since my first training session. I just wanted to be a goalkeeper.

Sommer identified Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas and former Man Utd star Edwin van der Sar as his childhood role models.

There are many goalkeepers who inspired me. But above all, I’d say my favorite is either Casillas or Van der Sar.
