Monday's long-awaited showdown between two of the SWAC's top women's basketball programs favored Jackson State as the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Golden Lions, 72-56.   

JSU improves to 16-6 overall and remains undefeated in the SWAC at 11-0.   

UAPB goes to 13-11 overall and 8-3 in the SWAC without their scoring leader, Zaay Green on the floor.

Adriana Avent scored 20 points, Ti'lan Boler added 18, and Angel Jackson contributed 5 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks to lead Jackson State to victory during Blackout Greek Night at H.O. Clemmons Arena.

After halftime, JSU expanded its 37-26 lead, going on a 7-0 run. But the Golden Lions melted the Tigers' advantage to 53-37 going into the final stanza.  

On their trip to Pine Bluff, Tomekia Reed's team had excellent contributions from their bench players, who outscored the hosts 32-15.

The Jackson State defense forced 16 turnovers, which led to 20 points. In addition, the Tigers recorded 22 points in the paint, 13 second chance points, and 13 fast break points.  

JSU shot 72.4 percent (21-for-29) from the free throw line and 35 percent (21-for-60) from the field.

Coriah Beck led the Golden Lions with 14 points, Maya Peat added 11, and Jelissa Reese notched 10 points in the losing effort.

Jackson State returns home with a clash with a 3:00 PM CT tip-off against Florida A&M at Lee E. Williams AAC on Saturday, Feb. 17.
