Jared Wiley has heard his name called from Detroit in the 2024 NFL Draft, with the Kansas City Chiefs selecting him in the fourth round.
Wiley finished out his college career with the TCU Horned Frogs, playing in Fort Worth for two seasons. A career year occurred in 2023, going for 520 yards and eight touchdowns on 47 receptions. Combined with a good performance at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Wiley shot up draft boards.
Texas was where Wiley committed coming out of high school but he never really got things going. Tom Herman was originally his head coach before playing under Steve Sarkisian for one year. Wiley entered the NCAA transfer portal and landed at TCU ahead of the 2022 season.
From a team perspective, it will be difficult for Wiley to forget the great run the Horned Frogs went on the year he arrived. Making the College Football Playoff and the national championship game was something everybody inside the program will remember forever.
Wiley played high school football at Temple (TX) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 646 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
As On3’s Cody Bellaire points out, Wiley played his senior season of high school as a quarterback, making his evaluation tougher.
But now, Wiley is officially in the NFL and ready to get his name established in the league.

Lance Zierlein of the NFL Network gave his analysis of Wiley heading into the draft, talking about the tight end’s versatility within the position. He believes some added strength is needed when blocking but Wiley going out there as a receiver is already a plus.
“Tall, long-armed tight end who flashes the potential to line up in-line or as a move tight end,” Zierlein said. “Wiley would benefit from better strength in his lower half to help sustain blocks, but his technique is generally good. He has the stride length to pick up speed in the seam and across the hashes on intermediate throws.
“The short-area foot quickness is very average and he’s an average separator underneath. Wiley’s catch talent and ability to fight through contact are big check marks in his favor. He has the versatility and potential to compete for a role as a TE3.”
