On May 17, the PBR World Finals will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. During this event, Kid Rock and PBR will introduce a new concept called Kid Rock's Rock N Rodeo, which will revolutionize Western sports. The competition will feature six teams, each of which will be led by a legendary rodeo head coach, and they will compete for a $1 million prize. 

Recently, the PBR announced its star-studded lineup of rodeo royalty, who will form five of the six competing rosters. The final team, called the Free Riders, will be composed entirely of WCRA athletes. The team will be finalized at the end of the WCRA's Rodeo Corpus Christi on May 11.

Who Qualifies For the Free Riders Team?

The 2024 WCRA Team, “The Free Riders”, will qualify to the team as the first and second place athletes from Rodeo Corpus Christi.The only path for non-drafted contestants to compete is by declaring eligibility through the WCRA’s state of the art Virtual Rodeo Qualifier (VRQ) and earning a leaderboard position in the top 20 at Rodeo Corpus Christi on May 8-11, 2024.

What is the Event Format?

Team Composition:

Each team consists of 16 athletes.

There are eight disciplines, and each team has two athletes in each discipline.

Competition Rounds:

There are four rounds of competition.

Rounds 1, 2, and 3 involve elimination brackets for each discipline.

Round 4 determines the overall event champion.

Rounds 1, 2, and 3:

Each round consists of discipline-specific head-to-head matchups against another team.

Teams compete in a tournament bracket format.

Advancement is discipline-specific, meaning if a team loses in a discipline, they no longer compete in that discipline for the remainder of the rounds.

Advancement Criteria:

Round 2: Winners of the three bracket head-to-head matchups plus one wild card athlete per discipline (the highest-placing athlete that did not advance).

Round 3: Winners of the Round 2 head-to-head matchups.

Medals:

Round 3 matchup winners receive gold medals.
Round 3 matchup losers receive silver medals.

Shootout Round:

The two teams with the most gold medals advance to the shootout round.
Each team competes head-to-head.

The shootout round is a clean slate. Teams have one athlete in each discipline competing.

The first team to win four disciplines wins the event.

Example Scenario (Free Riders):

In Round 1, Free Riders wins in barrel racing, team roping, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, and breakaway roping.

These athletes advance to Round 2 and continue winning in their respective disciplines.

In Round 3, Free Riders athletes win again, earning four gold medals and advancing to the shootout round.

In the shootout round, Free Riders wins matchups in tie-down roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, and saddle bronc riding, clinching the event win.

What is the Event Payout?

The $1 million prize for Kid Rock's Rock N Rodeo will be split with $500,000 going to the winning team. The other $500,000 will be distributed among competitors and coaches in various ways.
