Mel Kiper Jr. believes South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette will be a great fit for the Kansas City Chiefs. In his latest mock draft, the ESPN NFL Draft expert has Leggette going to the Chiefs at No. 32 overall in the draft which takes place next week.

“A big-bodied A.J. Brown-type receiver,” Kiper said about Legette on the mock draft special on SportsCenter. “You talk about cornerbacks, undersized corners be a nightmare trying to cover this guy man-to-man. We’ve seen one great year of production. Prior, to that he was a great kick returner.

“You liked to see two years of a guy like Legette putting up the numbers, but with Spencer Rattler, he was the clear-cut go-to guy. …For a big guy, he can move. He’s very athletic, he’s very tough. If he’s there at 32 I’ll tell you what, that’s a heck of a pick for the Chiefs.

In Kiper’s mock draft, he wrote Legette “made a leap” last season after recording 1,255 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. For the 2022 season, Legette only had 167 receiving yards. Kiper believes the Chiefs should draft Legette as they need more depth at the wide receiver position.

Xavier Legette talks about being from Mullins, South Carolina

Legette’s production in 2023 led to him being selected to the All-SEC Second Team. In February, Legette spoke to On3 about being from Mullins, South Carolina and the town supporting him as he enters the NFL.

“Everybody, they’re just excited for me,” Legette said. “I can always feel the love when I go home. I don’t want to say I’ve always been a big name in my city, but ever since I’ve been in rec ball, I’ve been doing very good in football and the sports I also played – basketball and baseball – as well. Ever since I was coming up, I always succeeded in those sports, as well. I’ve always had a good amount of hype around my name.

“But everybody getting to see where they’re having me projected and things like that, it’s just another level of excitement, everything going out the roof. When I go back home, folks are hitting me up on my social media apps and everything like that. It’s just a whole lot of excitement and joy.”

Legette’s 1,255 receiving yards ranked eighth in the FBS. He averaged 104.6 receiving yards per game which also ranked eighth in the country.
