Mercedes Moné main-evented NJPW Resurgence on May 21, but the remarkable match ended with the fan-favorite getting carried to the back following an apparent injury.

Moné competed in the tournament for the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship at NJPW Resurgence. Moné advanced to the finals by defeating Stephanie Vaquer, while Willow Nightingale beat Moho Kohgo in the first round. Nightingale and Moné faced each other in the main event, and the match was thrown off-course when the former IWGP Women’s Champion suffered an apparent injury.

As seen in the clip below, Moné landed awkwardly after she fell off the top rope.

Nightingale then pinned Moné with a Doctor Bomb to win the match and the title. Moné was carried to the back.

Per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the word going around backstage indicates that Moné is believed to have suffered a broken ankle.

In a tweet, Moné briefly commented on the situation by saying she loved the fans and that she’d come back better than ever once she healed.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
