Michigan football has been trying to build some momentum on the recruiting trail. The Wolverines have had some expert projections and crystal balls, but still haven’t ended their commitment drought.

Head coach Sherrone Moore is still looking for his first commitment. There were some positive signs on that front on Monday, but Michigan football also has to guard against a flip with one of its 2025 commitments — Bobby Kanka.

The four-star defensive line ranked No. 364 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, from Howell, Michigan, is 6-foot-4, 255 pounds. He’s also the fourth-ranked recruit in the state for the 2025 class.

Kanka has been committed to Michigan football since August. He has also locked in a visit for the spring game on Saturday but Allen Trieu of 247 Sports also reports he’ll take two official visits elsewhere.

Michigan football commitment taking official visits to MSU, Tennessee

Kanka will visit Michigan State officially in June, from the 14th-16th. He will also take an official visit to Tennessee (June 21-23). He doesn’t have an official visit to Michigan yet, but I’m sure that will come.

As far as the concern about a flip, that always exists when a commitment is visiting other programs. An official visit is also a more serious step than a one-day trip.

Lou Esposito, the new defensive line coach for the Wolverines, has been in contact with Kanka. He’ll get a chance to build that relationship this weekend which will be important. Kanka is at least willing to listen to other programs and that’s a worrying sign at the moment. The Wolverines need to firm up his commitment and the spring game will be a great chance to start that.
