The New Orleans Saints addressed their biggest hole on the roster in round one. They took offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga to start on their OL next season.

Where can the Saints improve on day two of the draft?

3 biggest needs for the Saints entering day two of the 2024 NFL Draft

Another impactful safety

Tyrann Mathieu is still playing very good ball as a veteran. Jordan Howden emerged as a day three pick last year and was the second best safety on the Saints roster. Now, he is a projected starter with Jonathan Abram behind him.

New Orleans must add a third safety that can play deep. Picking one at 45 would be steep, but grabbing one later on day two with a trade up or early on day three makes a lot of sense. They've hit on defensive backs in the middle rounds consistently in recent years. They must continue that trend.

A big-bodied pass catcher

This target does not have to be a wide receiver. Keon Coleman from Florida State is not expected to make it to pick 45. That being said, New Orleans needs another jump ball option with Michael Thomas out the door. Thomas was known for his strong hands and play over the middle of the field.

The Saints must create more pass catching depth alongside the pieces they've signed in free agency. A.T. Perry is an exciting, young player, but they cannot rely solely on him as that sort of pass catcher on their depth chart.

Defensive line depth

The defensive line is improved after signing Chase Young off the edge. The Saints could target DL in round two still, though. The interior was very inconsistent in 2023, and their overall pass rush was one of the worst in the NFC.

Bryan Bresee is an exciting young piece but another talented interior player may be the best value for New Orleans in round two. We will see how it unfolds.
