The Buffalo Bills selected Utah safety Cole Bishop with the No. 60 overall pick during the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Friday night adding an athletic presence into the secondary.

Last season, Bishop produced 60 total tackles with two interceptions, and showed he wasn’t afraid to throw his weight around near the line of scrimmage by posting three sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 60 total tackles.

Given what the Bills have lost in free agency in the secondary this offseason, Bishop has the opportunity to play quality snaps immediately while growing into a role as the future of the safety position in Western, New York.

Cole Bishop NFL Draft Scouting Report

A physical presence, at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Bishop has an elite nose for the football.

Across three collegiate seasons, Bishop capped his career with 197 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 21.5 tackles for loss, while intercepting three passes and breaking up 12 more an adding four fumble recoveries with one forced fumble.

“Bishop was a highly productive tackler,” NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein writes. “And valuable three-year starter for Utah. He stays busy around the line of scrimmage and can dart into gaps but can be a little slow playing off of big blockers.

“Bishop has man coverage potential on tight ends and is a bona fide striker when crashing down from his zone perch. He balances pursuit flow with a last-line-of-defense mentality as a run defender from high safety but will lose discipline in his deep safety duties at times.”
