Ohio State freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith finished the 2024 football recruiting cycle as the consensus No. 1 overall prospect in the nation and so far in his limited showing for the Buckeyes during spring ball, he's making a good first impression.

One of the highlight moments during OSU's first spring scrimmages was Smith going down to bring in a low pass from quarterback Will Howard, securing an impressive hands catch.

Smith was a consensus five-star prospect and the top-ranked player in the 2024 football recruiting class after a brilliant varsity high school career where he caught 45 touchdown passes with over 3,000 yards and a 17 yard per catch average.

"He's a dude, man," Howard said of the receiver.

"That dude is a freak show when it comes to physical. I'm excited to see him out on the field in live action. It'll be fun. The thing that's impressed me the most, especially the receiver room, is how driven they are, and how much they want to work."

Smith's addition to the roster comes during an active offseason that saw Ohio State get aggressive in the transfer portal, as well.

In addition to signing Howard from Kansas State to lead the offense, the Buckeyes acquired five-star quarterback and former Alabama commit Julian Sayin, former five-star Crimson Tide defensive back phenom Caleb Downs, and two-time SEC-leading rusher and former Ole Miss back Quinshon Judkins.

Ohio State ranks second among all schools with +480 odds to win the national championship entering the 2024 season.
