A few weeks ago on “The Pat McAfee Show,” WWE president Nick Khan revealed he attempted to persuade Tim Tebow to make an appearance at Wrestlemania. Paul Finebaum believes Tebow should have accepted the offer.
In a conversation with On3’s Andy Staples, Finebaum explained why he believes the former Heisman Trophy winner would have been a fantastic professional wrestler.
“I think Tim made a mistake,” Finebaum said. “Could you imagine Tebow in that world? And, listen, we both have been around Tim a long time, he’s one of the most electric personalities. I think he would love it. I don’t think Tim has any other comebacks up his sleeve but, man, would I like to see that.”
Tebow is full of surprises. After spending four years at Florida and three full seasons in the NFL, Tebow stepped away from football. However, he didn’t stop chasing his athletic dreams.
In early August 2016, Tebow announced he was interested in pursuing a career in professional baseball and invited all 30 Major League Baseball teams to his open tryout. Although Tebow had not played baseball full-time since 2005, his junior year in high school, he received an offer to play for the New York Mets’ minor league team.
Tebow took them up on the offer and continued to rise up the ranks of the minor leagues until 2021 when he retired from the sport. Tebow never played in an MLB game, but he found success with each organization he played for.
Again, Tebow couldn’t stay stagnant for long. On May 20, 2021, Tebow contacted his his former college coach, Urban Meyer, then coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, about returning to the sport. Meyer gave him a shot, signing Tebow to a one-year contract with no guaranteed money.
Instead of signing to play quarterback, Tebow joined the team as a tight end. The Jaguars released Tebow on August 17, 2021. Tebow did not record any catches during his limited playing time in the preseason.
Of course, Tebow’s ventures aren’t limited to athletics. He is also a filmmaker, analyst and motivational speaker. Appearing on the SEC Network, Tebow still shows off his inspirational abilities from time to time; a skill that would fit in perfectly in the WWE.
“We know he can cut a promo. We saw what he said after the Ole Miss game in 2008,” Staples said, referring to Tebow’s famous promise to Florida fans.
Perhaps with a little extra pressure from his co-workers, Tim Tebow will make an appearance in the WWE sooner rather than later. If he does, one thing is certain: it will be entertaining.
