The Ole Miss Rebels rode a late surge offensively on Tuesday night to take down the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi, by a final score of 8-3.

Ole Miss (16-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a pair of RBI singles from Jackson Ross and Ethan Lege, but Southern Miss responded with three runs in the top of the second in what became a long inning for Rebels starting pitcher Riley Maddox.

From that point on, however, things were quiet until the Rebels pushed across two runs apiece in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, capped off by a two-run home run by Lege to push the game to its final score.

Lege led the Rebels in RBIs on the night with three, and Jackson Ross joined him in the multi-RBI category with two.

On the mound, Maddox drew the start, as mentioned above, and after his shaky second inning, he settled in nicely to finish with six innings total. He would not allow a run after the second inning, giving up just five hits and striking out six.

He was relieved by a combination of four Rebel relievers: Ryne Rodriguez (0.1 IP), Brayden Jones (0.2 IP), Mason Nichols (1.0 IP) and Connor Spencer (1.0 IP). Combined, the Ole Miss bullpen gave up only two hits and walked one.

With the win, the Rebels will now shift their focus to their weekend road trip to Knoxville where they will take on the Tennessee Volunteers. The series is set to begin on Friday with a 5:30 p.m. CT first pitch, and the game will be televised on SEC Network+.
