Former Ohio State linebacker Anthony Schlegel is reportedly returning to the Buckeyes' football program to help during winter workouts. He'll be assisting the strength and conditioning staff on an interim basis while another coach is out for surgery.

The 42-year-old Schlegel worked on the strength and conditioning staff for Ohio State from 2011 through 2015 and also served in the same capacity for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 under head coach Urban Meyer.

Schlegel appeared in 12 games for the Buckeyes in 2005, registering 82 tackles with 43 solo, two sacks and one pass defended. The University Park, Texas native was drafted by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Schlegel played two seasons in the NFL splitting time between the Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals where he tallied five starts over 17 games with 38 tackles and one quarterback hit.

Schlegel is the latest addition - albeit a temporary one - to a staff that just gained Bill O'Brien as offensive coordinator and Matt Guerrieri to coach the safeties. As coach Ryan Day continues to tweak his coaching staff, more additions could be coming.

The former Buckeyes linebacker also owns a fitness company called Schlegel Hardcore Elite Training.
