Per a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel, the Western Michigan Broncos have found their next offensive coordinator.

Thamel posted to X that Walt Bell will be hired to take the position. Bell spent three seasons as the head coach of the UMass Minutemen, compiling a 2-23 record from 2019 through 2021. Bell spent the previous two seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Indiana.

Bell will replace Billy Cosh, who was hired as the head coach at FCS Stony Brook University last month.

The former Minutemen coach inherits an offense that was in the top half of the MAC in most categories, scoring 23.7 points per game and averaging 365 yards per game.

Indiana averaged 332.8 yards per game in 2023 under Bell's direction and averaged 22.2 points per game, ninth in the Big Ten. Former Indiana head coach Tom Allen fired Bell this past October, replacing him with Rod Carey. Allen was fired at the conclusion of the season.

Bell also has experience as an assistant at Florida State, Maryland, Arkansas State, North Carolina, Southern Miss, Oklahoma State, Memphis, and Louisiana. He played wide receiver at Middle Tennessee from 2003 to 2006.
