Earlier this week, Shawn Elliott surprised the college football world by resigning his position as head coach of Georgia State to become an assistant coach at South Carolina. The decision was announced after the Panthers had already started Spring Practice.

On Thursday, The Athletic reported that Mike Sirignano, the program's strength coach, has been named as the program's interim head coach. The school has not announced that move yet, as of Saturday afternoon.

Sirignano just completed his first season with GSU after spending the previous three at Louisville. Prior to that, he spent four seasons at Appalachian State, where he was later promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Performance.

Georgia State plans to move quickly in finding a permanent head coach, using the search firm Parker Executive Search. Their spring game has reportedly been postponed to a date TBD.
