The UConn Huskies women’s basketball team win the Phil Knight Invitational with an 86-79 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Huskies trailed at half-time 41-35 but fought back with a solid third quarter to win. Iowa battled back in the fourth but could not close the gap enough.

Azzi Fudd Overcame Slow Start

Fudd scored 24 points but only two points in the first half. The sophomore shot 10-19 from the field and 4-10 from three-point land. However, once she got going in the second half, it was hard for the Hawkeyes to slow Fudd down. Fudd is playing outstanding this season, averaging 26 points per game.

Caitlin Clark Scored 25 Points

On 9-24 shooting from the field and 2-11 from beyond the arc, Caitlin Calrk scored 25 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists. Clark tried hard to big Iowa back in the fourth quarter be fail short.

Doube-Doube for Aaliyah Edwards

UConn got a massive lift for Aaliyah Edwards; she scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. She also dished out six assists. In addition, Edwards shot an efficient 10-16 from the field. If Edwards can continue to play like this, Connecticut will win many games. 

Kate Martin Stepped up

Kate Martin came into the game averaging 4.2 points per game for Iowa. On Sunday, she scored 2o points while shooting 7-10 from the field and 6-6 from long distance. She was a big reason why Iowa played well in the first half. If Martin can continue to play well, the Hawkeyes can do some damage.

Connecticut Outrebounded Iowa

The Huskies outrebounded the Hawkeyes 44-28. Connecticut was aggressive on the boards, and it showed in the stats. Iowa will need to improve in the rebounding department as the season progresses.

Huskies Ball Movement

UConn dished out 30 team assists on Sunday; Nika Muhl led the way with 13. She is leading the nation in assists with ten per game. Moving the ball on offense makes it hard for the defense to key on one person.
