SRX Racing picks and odds Sat., 7/16: Is Tony Stewart good value at I-55 Raceway?

This Saturday is the beginning of dirt season, as the SRX gang head to the I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri. Phil Bobbitt is here to break down this SRX race and share his best bets.

We totally whiffed last weekend by taking Tony Stewart as big chalk at the Nashville Fairgrounds. Stewart finished a disappointing 11th in the 13-car field. Our Oddschecker car driven by Paul Tracy got wheeled home in fourth. The TV time is worth almost as much as a win.

SRX I-55 Raceway Prediction

This Saturday is the beginning of dirt SZN, as the SRX gang head to the I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri. This 0.3-mile clay oval beauty has 19-degree banking in the corners and 10-degree banks on the straights. It's basically the Thunderdome. There's a lot of speed jam-packed into this bad boy, and the laps will click off around 12 seconds.

New Jersey residents got some great news right before the green flag last Saturday, as Draftkings opened SRX markets. If they're going to post a market, we have no other choice than to bet it.

There is simply no other way to bet this than backing Tony Stewart. Last year, Stewart won both SRX races on dirt. He didn't just win though, he flat out dominated.

Kenny Schrader (+800) is a retired Cup Series driver. He was a four-time winner in Nascar's premier division and drove the Skoal Bandit car for a while. Our algorithm adds 10 wins for that paint scheme alone. Here's the wrinkle ... Schrader is the co-owner of the I-55 Raceway and has an impressive dirt resume. He was also the test driver for the SRX cars at I-55 before the season began. But he's basically a fossil.

IndyCar drivers Tony Kanaan (+2000) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (+2500) will probably experience a huge learning curve on this dirt playground. Paul Tracy (+5000) is an interesting candidate for a sprinkle considering his strong showing last weekend and his somewhat impressive 5th place finish on the Knoxville dirt in 2021. He won't be getting our money, but we can understand why you might be tempted.

Ryan Newman (+450) is the 2022 points leader, but the number is a bit short for us to throw the dart. He may be more concerned about having a solid finish and maintaining the points lead while the schedule shifts into Tony Stewart's wheelhouse.
