Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson cheered on his alma mater NC State during the Wolfpack’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament second-round game in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Wilson was spotted at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday as the Wolfpack took on Oakland in the Round of 32. He attended the game with Steelers minority owner Thomas Tull.
Wilson was treated to a close contest, as the game between NC State and Oakland went into overtime. The winner will take on the winner of Colorado and Marquette in the Sweet 16 next week.
Both NC State and Oakland were upsets to make it to the second round, with the ‘Pack beating higher-seeded Texas and the Golden Grizzlies knocking off Kentucky.
Wilson committed to NC State on July 23, 2006, before his senior season of high school at Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia. He also had a scholarship offer from Duke. Wilson spent four years Raleigh, playing in 36 games and throwing for 8,545 yards and 30 touchdowns over three seasons from 2008-10.
He also played baseball at NC State, playing as a second baseman from 2008-10. In 2010, after graduating, he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies, and he attended spring training with the club, leaving the NC State football team.
After deciding to go back to football, Wilson transferred to Wisconsin for his final season of eligibility.
One of the newest Steelers, Wilson has been getting adjusted to his new home since signing with Pittsburgh on March 10. Wilson and the rest of the Steelers players won’t have any formal duties in Pittsburgh until organized team activities start in May, though they can begin working out on their own and at the team facility before then.
