Taylor Woodson is coming home.
The Gophers women's basketball team announced that Woodson, one of the top high school recruits in Minnesota in 2023, is transferring to the program after one year at Michigan.
The 6-foot forward played in 32 games off the bench for the Wolverines last season and averaged 1.9 points and 1.7 assists in 8.9 minutes per game.
ESPN ranked Woodson as the No. 59 prep player in the country in 2023, and the third-highest rated Minnesota high school player behind Hopkins teammate player Sunaja Agara (Stanford) and St. Michael-Albertville's Tessa Johnson, who starred for undefeated South Carolina in the national title game against Iowa.
"Taylor is a great addition to our program. She is an athletic perimeter player who has the ability to impact the game in many ways," said Gophers head coach Dawn Plitzuweit. "She pushes the ball up the floor, she gets to the rim and creates shots either for herself or for her teammates. She moves well without the ball, and she defends and rebounds at a high level."
Woodson has three years of eligibility remaining and will be joining former high school teammate Amaya Battle.
During her senior season at Hopkins, Woodson averaged 18.7 points. She helped Hopkins win two state titles.
"I cannot wait to be at the University of Minnesota for the next three years and play for my home team. I am thankful for the opportunity to play in front of friends and family, and I am excited for what's to come. It is going to be something special," Woodson said.
