The TCU Rifle team, for the fourth time in program history, came back to Fort Worth with the National Championship Trophy. The program, under the direction of head coach Karen Monez, previously won in 2010, 2012, and 2019. The Horned Frogs team is the only National Champion team with an all-female squad.
Let me reiterate that: the only ALL-FEMALE squad to win a National Championship.
As well as being the overall team National Champion, TCU also took home the air rifle championship for the fifth time in school history (2010, 2012, 2021, and 2022).
The Horned Frogs fired a 2385 in air rifle and a 2347 in smallbore for a team total of 4732 on the weekend. The score was good enough to beat their fellow Big 12 foe, West Virginia, by three shots to hold on for the Victory.
Although the team entered the day trailing by six shots, the Lady Horned Frogs did not falter when it mattered most. Katie Zaun shot a 598, Stephanie Grundsoee fired a 596, and Jeanne Haverhill had a score of 593 to round out the first relay of the day.
The team needed a strong performance in the final relay of the day, and the duo of Mikole Hogan and Stephanie Allan delivered one of their best performances of the season when it mattered most. Hogan fired a 596, and Allan put up a mark of 595.
Grundsoee, Hogan, and Zaun all had individual placements as well. Zaun just missed out on a medal, placing fourth, Hogan placed sixth, and Grundsoee rounded it out with a seventh-place finish.
