When the 2024 NFL Draft begins, the Tennessee Titans will likely bolster their offensive line by selecting Joe Alt. On the SportsCenter Special: Mel Kiper’s NFL Mock Draft 4.0, Mel Kiper projects the Titans will select the former Notre Dame offensive lineman at No. 7 overall.
“We always hope for some curveballs, but we kind of locked in on the Tennessee Titans to Joe Alt,” Kiper said. “They need a left tackle. They got Will Levis, a promising young quarterback (who) showed really well when he was forced in there with the [Ryan Tannehill] injury. And now you get a Joe Alt.
“Joe Alt showed improvement year in and year out. He had four sacks in 2021 and only two sacks in the last two years. He has great bloodlines with his father John. The improvement he showed is significant. Now he’s a consistent left tackle bookend who always keeps that frame between the quarterback and defensive end.”
Kiper has had Alt going to the Titans in all four of his mock drafts. In his latest mock draft, Kiper wrote that Alt can “step in and play left tackle as a rookie for the Titans.” Kiper added, “Alt is a pure left tackle who started 33 games there for the Fighting Irish.”
Joe Alt learned a lot from his father
Alt’s play during the last two seasons at Notre Dame led to him being named a First Team All-American in 2022 and a unanimous All-American in 2023. His father, John played offensive line at Iowa and was a first-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984. Alt’s father was selected to the Pro Bowl twice and is a member of the Chiefs Hall of Fame.
“Having his background has been very helpful for me, and he’s taught me so much,” Alt told Pro Football Focus. “But there’s always a little pressure. Obviously, he was a great player and did a lot. Now I have the lineage, so I want to continue that.”
The Titans could use Alt to add more protection for Levis who took over as starting QB midway through the 2023 season. In nine games, Levis finished the year with 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions with a passer rating of 84. Levis tallied a 3-6 record in the nine games, and the Titans finished the year with a 6-11 record.
