On July 10th, 2023 Dax Collins, a three-star athlete out of Poteau, Oklahoma committed to the University of Tulsa. Collins is a versatile two-way player that will play as a defensive back for the Golden Hurricane.

The Poteau product held a handful of P5 offers, including the likes of Michigan State and Colorado. Despite that, head coach Kevin Wilson and company were able to fend off other suitors and secure his commitment. When asked why he chose Tulsa, he stated, "The coaches... They really just wanted me, you know? I felt most comfortable around them, and I feel like that was the right choice. Me and my parents had talked about it throughout. They liked them, I liked them, that was the deciding factor."

Collins had a long-standing relationship with linebackers coach and defensive run game coordinator Koy McFarland, and that went a long way in this recruitment. "He was really one of the first ones to talk to me... I came up [to Tulsa] and he was the one to show me around. He's almost like family. He's a good guy"

Being from Oklahoma, it means a lot to Collins to be able to stay at home and play football at the next level.

"It means everything. I could've went anywhere, but Oklahoma's my place and I felt most comfortable here."

Collins wanted to commit before his final high school season began, so once he knew that Tulsa was the place that he wanted to go, he decided to pull the trigger within a couple of days.

What Role Will Dax Collins Have at Tulsa?

He is a two-way player, but as I stated earlier, he will play on the defensive side of the ball. They look to utilize Collins as a high safety, and I think that's a great fit for him. He's got good speed and athleticism and is able to track down the football from a long way away. You can check out some of his highlights here. I really like what he brings to the table for the Golden Hurricane. He could make a big impact, and help revitalize Tulsa under a new head coach.
