The season continues for the Virginia women's basketball team. The Cavaliers have earned a bid to the inaugural NCAA Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT). Virginia is a No. 4 seed in the 32-team field and will host High Point on Thursday, March 21st at John Paul Jones Arena (time TBD).

The winner of Virginia-High Point will face the winner of No. 1 seed Villanova and VCU in the second round on March 24th.

The WBIT, which was created in 2023 and is about to be played for the first time over the next few weeks, is a 32-team postseason tournament owned and operated by the NCAA. The first, second, and quarterfinal rounds of the tournament will be played at campus sites on March 21st, 24th, and 28th, while the semifinals (April 1) and championship game (April 3) will be played at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

This will mark the fourth meeting all-time between Virginia and High Point, who is 20-11 overall this season and went 14-2 in the Big South, claiming the league's regular season title, which gave the Panthers an automatic bid to the WBIT. UVA is 3-0 against High Point, beating the Panthers in 2008, 2011, and 2013 at John Paul Jones Arena.

Virginia is 15-15 this season, went 7-11 in ACC play, and posted four wins against AP Top 25 teams, the most ranked victories the Cavaliers have earned in a single season since 2008-2009. UVA's appearance in the WBIT marks the first postseason action (other than the ACC Tournament) for the program since 2017-2018.

Tipoff times for the WBIT first round games is expected to be announced on Monday.
