It’s officially, official. Indiana football head coach Tom Allen has been let go after seven seasons.

Indiana Athletic Director Scott Dolson made his decision public on Sunday afternoon making it known that the Indiana football program is not where is needed to be, saying ‘we have lost momentum’.

There is a notable adjustment to the buyout of Tom Allen’s contract, however. Indiana negotiated Tom Allen’s buyout down from about $20.8 million to $15.5 million — paid in two equal installments.

Below is the full release from Indiana.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson announced on Sunday afternoon that head football coach Tom Allen will not return next season. A national search for Allen’s successor will begin immediately.

“After continued evaluation of our entire football program, I have determined that we have lost momentum and that a change in leadership is necessary at this time. I want to thank Tom for all of the contributions he has made to IU in his seven years leading our program. His passion, character, and class made a positive impact on our student-athletes. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

The university and Allen have agreed on a financial settlement of two $7.75 million installments that will be paid through the department of athletics donor funds.
