Granville, WV - The West Virginia Mountaineers (12-9) hit five home runs Wednesday afternoon to clinch the season series over the Marshall Thundering Herd (6-14) with a dominating 15-0 decision.

West Virginia sophomore Gavin Van Kempen got the start and went three innings with four strikeouts, sophomore Cole Estridge went two innings with a pair of K's, then four Mountaineer relievers went an inning apiece, highlighted by freshman Chase Myer striking out the side to keep the Herd off the board. 

West Virginia jumped out to a commanding 5-0 first inning lead, with junior Grant Hussey bringing in the game's first run with an RBI double, followed by a three-run home run from senior Kyle West, then Reed Chumley hit a solo shot for back-to-back home runs. 

Reed Chumley ripped an RBI double into left centerfield and scored following a wild pitch and an errant throw before freshman Aaron Jamison and sophomore Sam White both hit two-run home runs for a six-run third inning to extend the lead 11-0. 

Reed Chumley hit his second home run of the afternoon with a solo shot in the fourth inning. 

West Virginia added three runs in the fifth when freshman Michael Perazza doubled down the left field line, setting up freshman Spencer Barnett for the RBI single to left field. Then, Kyle West lined a single into right field for a pair of RBIs for a 15-0 lead as the Mountaineers cruised to a 15-0.
