After trading away their young quarterback Dru Brown, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers locked up one of the team’s top pass catchers.

The team announced Saturday they had re-signed wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky on a two-year contract extension.

Wolitarsky was drafted by the Bombers in the CFL Supplemental Draft in 2017 and has spent his whole six-season career with Winnipeg. While Wolitarsky only played five games in his rookie season, the 28-year-old receiver has consistently played between 14 to 18 regular-season games.

His 2023 campaign was his best season so far, ending with a recorded 64 receptions for 668 yards and six scores. Wolitarsky has caught 194 passes for 2,551 yards and 17 touchdowns in his 86-game career. He has also won two Grey Cups with the Bombers in 2019 and 2021.

Before his CFL career, he went unselected in the 2017 NFL Draft, getting an initial workout with the Minnesota Vikings. Wolitarsky played college football with the Minnesota Golden Gophers from 2013 through 2016 and caught 130 passes for 1,749 yards and nine touchdowns in 47 games.

Wolitarsky was one of five wide receivers in Winnipeg who were pending free agents before the February 13 CFL free agency period began. With uncertainty about whether fellow free agent receiver Dalton Schoen will return to the team, Wolitarsky helps the team get some stability at the position for 2024.
