Michigan football fans should get to know the name of Taz Williams. He’s a four-star wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class and he could be one of Sherrone Moore’s first commitments.

That’s a bit of a leap — meaning — Michigan football still has work to do to secure a commitment from the 5-foot-11, 181-pound wideout out of Red Oak, Texas. Williams is ranked No. 266 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class. He’s also 33rd among wide receivers.

However, when you watch him play, his ranking doesn’t seem high enough. Williams broke out in 2023 too, posting over 1,200 yards and catching 12 touchdowns. The list of teams interested does match the talent level as Williams has official visits scheduled to Ohio State, Texas A&M, and USC.

Yet, none of those teams are the favorite in his recruitment as of Monday. That is Michigan football, at least according to Chad Simmons of On3.com.

Recruiting Expert like Michigan football for Taz Williams

Simmons is the lead national recruiting expert for On3.com and in an interview on Monday, he said, “I like Michigan in this one.” He also said it was a classic Michigan-Ohio State recruiting battle.

Williams plays in Texas but is from the Midwest so he wouldn’t have any qualms about playing college football in the region according to Simmons, which is a good thing for the Wolverines.

Ron Bellamy has been the point man in this recruitment. He just signed a new two-year deal and is working hard to land one of the top targets on the board. Michigan football is trending up with a few wide receiver targets, but after what Simmons reported, it seems like the Wolverines are the team to beat for Taz Williams.

It will be interesting to see when he’ll take an official visit and if the Wolverines can close. They have had problems doing that with blue-chip talents and Williams is certainly that.
