The Arizona State men’s basketball team has found themselves in the perhaps the most uncomfortable place to be with just over a month remaining in the regular season: squarely on the bubble. ASU began the year strong, going 9-2 in non-conference play but has ran into a rough patch the last few weeks and watched as their NCAA Tournament chances grew weaker and weaker. And even after earning their best win of the season, at No. 23 West Virginia, things aren’t looking good.
The latest projections have the Sun Devils as the last team in the “next four out”.
That means they’ll have to jump eight teams just to make it into the tournament field.
Now certainly ASU will have plenty of opportunities left to do that with several meaningful games left on the schedule, starting tomorrow night. The Sun Devils are preparing for their biggest test yet as they host No. 3 Iowa State on Saturday afternoon. Right now the Cyclones are 10.5 point favorites.
