Chuba Purdy, the brother of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, entered the NCAA transfer portal last week in search of a new opportunity. Clearly, it didn't take long for him to make up his mind.
On Tuesday night, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that Purdy withdrew his name from the transfer portal. In other words, he'll be staying at Nevada for the 2025 season. That might be a good thing for Purdy, who has already transferred twice in his college career. Another move might not benefit him at this stage. With that said, he confirmed his return to the Wolfpack with a brief social media post.
"Staying with the Pack!" Purdy tweeted. "Let's run it back."
Purdy started his college career at Florida State. He spent two seasons with the Seminoles before transferring to Nebraska. Once again, he spent two years at the school before hitting the portal and taking his talents to Nevada.
In brief playing time over the past five years, Purdy has completed just 55.1 percent of his passes for 1,085 yards with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also has 375 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Unfortunately for Chubba, he just hasn't been able to find the right landing spot in college. His older brother Brock, meanwhile, started at Iowa State for four years and had 12,170 career passing yards before becoming Mr. Irrelevant for the 49ers.
Purdy could potentially win Nevada's starting job for the 2025 season, especially if Brendon Lewis leaves in the offseason.
At the very least, Purdy will get to have some sense of stability after a wild past few years at the collegiate level.
