If you thought former New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr was going to go quietly into retirement, think again.
After announcing on Saturday that a shoulder injury caused his NFL career to come to an abrupt end, Carr immediately jumped on social media and entered one of the most-discussed topics of the NFL offseason: the Cleveland Browns' rookie minicamp.
Cleveland has been the center of attention since drafting both Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Along with the Browns' other five draft picks (and a total of 56 invitees), they participated in their first NFL practices from Friday to Sunday.
The quarterback battle is of particular interest following Sanders' unexpected slide from potential first-round prospect to fifth-round draft pick. He and Gabriel shared mutual respect in their Saturday interviews, but on the field, every pass from both rookies is getting picked apart.

Shedeur's father, Colorado Buffaloes head football coach Deion Sanders, shared a video on Instagram of some of his son's best throws from the weekend. That's where Carr popped up with a wordless comment that appeared supportive of the fifth-round pick.
His simple comment of one bullseye emoji generated more than 1,000 likes and 30 replies under Coach Prime's post, which was captioned, "Ok Young King."
While it may not resonate like praise from Tom Brady, a fellow late draft pick who turned into a seven-time Super Bowl winner, Carr's stamp of approval is nothing to scoff at.
A four-time Pro Bowl selection, the former Raiders and Saints signal caller ended his career inside the top 25 in NFL history in several major passing statistics, including completions (3,765, 20th), yards (41,245, 22nd) and touchdowns (257, 22nd).

In another world, Carr could have been Sanders' direct mentor during his rookie season. New Orleans was a popular landing spot for Sanders in pre-draft projections — and the cover used by the person who prank called Sanders on draft night — but the Saints took 25-year-old QB Tyler Shough in the second round instead.
