Defenseman Max Coyle is heading overseas after finishing the 2024-25 season with the Indy Fuel.
Coyle has signed with the Aalborg Pirates in Denmark’s Metal Ligaen for the 2025-26 season, marking the next step in his professional hockey journey.

A Late-Season Shift to Indy

Coyle spent most of last season with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, appearing in 37 games and recording seven assists. Known for his steady defensive play and willingness to block shots, he was often relied upon in penalty kill situations and late-game defensive shifts.

As the season progressed, Coyle made the move to the Indy Fuel, where he finished the year. In Indy, he played eight regular-season games and four playoff contests, adding one assist in the postseason. His physical style and attention to detail on the back end made him a solid fit for the Fuel’s playoff run, helping the team in tough minutes down the stretch.

ECHL Experience and Leadership

Coyle’s ECHL career spans parts of three seasons, primarily with Greenville but also including stints with Indy. Across 102 regular-season games, he has tallied two goals, 17 assists, and 42 penalty minutes. He’s also picked up playoff experience with both teams, adding valuable depth and leadership along the way.

Fans in Greenville will remember him for his consistent effort on the blue line, while Indy fans got a glimpse of his game in the critical final stretch of the year.

From Bowling Green to Pro Hockey

Before turning pro, Coyle played four seasons at Bowling Green State University, where he served as an alternate captain in his senior year. His time in the NCAA saw him rack up 22 points over 105 games, while also being a trusted leader in the locker room.

His college career helped shape his pro game, emphasizing structure, defensive awareness, and a team-first mentality—qualities he carried into the ECHL.

New Opportunity in Denmark

Now, Coyle will take his talents to Europe, joining the Aalborg Pirates, one of the top teams in Denmark’s Metal Ligaen. The Pirates have a strong track record in Danish hockey, and the move gives Coyle the chance to experience the European game while continuing to develop his professional career.
