It was nightmarish on the Plains in the second half of a 43-34 loss to Mississippi State for Auburn football fans.

The Tigers came into this one as favorites but leave it just 6-4 in the current campaign, with three of those wins coming against Group of Five/FCS schools Akron, Alabama State, and Georgia State.

Who knows if they even enter their Week 12 matchup–a rematch against South Carolina, who shocked Auburn in 2020–as a betting favorite. We may have seen Las Vegas give Auburn football the benefit of the doubt one last time in 2021 depending on who they wind up opposite for their bowl game.

While that could lead to some nice payouts if AU can now play spoiler (particularly in the Iron Bowl), this wasn’t what fans were hoping for at this point of the season after spectacular wins over LSU, Arkansas, and Ole Miss in October.

This is, however, where many expected them to be in 2021.
